Jaipur is a city of Rajasthan in the north west of India. The city established in 1727 by Raja Sawai Jaisingh II. The tourist attractions in Jaipur are the Fort, Palaces, landscape, fair and festivals, artistic and cultural features and its history. The old capital of Rajput Kachhwaha clan was in the Amer fort. This part was known as Mewar in the Mughal period.

Raja Man singh built a massive citadel in 1569 surrounded by the Aravali mountains. Rajputs and Mughals have military and matrimonial relations. Raja Man singh was an Army General in Akbar‘s Army. The power, prosperity and stability under the Mughal Empire the kachhwaha Rajput build a strong hold in Rajasthan.

There are number of tourist attractions in Jaipur city. These are the Fort of Amer, the City Palace of Jaipur, Jantar Mantar or Observatory, Jal Mahal, Nahargarh fort, Jaigarh fort, Hawa Mahal and the elephant rides.

As you know the capital of Rajasthan is Jaipur. Jaipur is the larget city of Rajasthan. It has an area of 204 sq kms. The city is surrounded by mountains from three sides. It is a planned city with wide roads and markets in well arranged manner. The city could be divided into seven parts, two parts of the city belongs to Jaipur Royal family and five parts for public uses. Jaipur is also known as Pink city. Painted in the red and lamonede desert color to welcome the Guest.

One of the major Tourist attractions in Jaipur is the Amer fort and its elephant ride. The fort is a massive and very attractive fort, with many palaces inside. One can see the rampart wall and watch tower enclosing the city. The entrance of the main Palace is painted with a big Ganesh Picture, the elephant god of Hindus. Diwan-e-khas or the Palace for Royal People is artistically wonderful. Popularly called as SheeshMahal or Mirror Palace. The ceiling and walls on its upper level is, thoroughly decorated with small pieces of glass. The interior has some flower designs with stain glass. The Sukh Mandir or the Palace for summer is a simply decorated light colored chamber. It has water channel that flows from inside to cool the palace with open arched balcony facing to the east, that allows the wind to flow smoothly.

The ladies apartment are double stories apartment with many chambers interconnected. It has many stairs, sometimes appears to be a maze for first time visitors. The close proximity of Jaigarh fort is a part of Amer fort built in 1726. Jaigarh fort located on a high rise hill south west of Amer fort, interconnected by a subterranean passage. It has a world largest cannon “Jaivana” on wheels built in this fort.

Why Nahargarh and Jal Mahal was built.

The Nahargarh Fort is situated on a high hill looking over to Jaipur city. This fort was a small military base built for the treasury of Rajput family. Named to a Prince of Kachhwaha Rajput as Nahar singh. The Fort, also known as Tiger fort. The evening sunset and the lights of Jaipur city can be captured from here.

Jal Mahal or the water Palace built to escape from the heat of summer. The double story square stone palace is in the artificial lake built by Jai singh. It is in the middle of the lake and there is no road connection with bridge. The only approachable way is the boat used only for the Royal family. The lake filled with fishes and entering the lake or catching the fish is restricted. you can feed them and enjoy photography with Jal Mahal from its western bank only.

The other famous tourist attractions in Jaipur are the City Palace. A beautiful palace built in pink and red sandstone has intricate beautiful designs on its exterior. It is equally impressive from inside. The actual name is Chandar Palace. It has deewan-e-aam, deewan-e-khas, dance and festival courtyard. It has three museums as well, which give you detail information of the Rajput unique culture and history.

Jantar Mantar or the observatory built by Raja Jai singh II in 1728 is now a world heritage site. Raja Jai singh was very keen of learning, and astronomy was his great attraction. He built five observatory in India, that is located in different parts of north India. The first he built in Delhi in 1724, commissioned by the then Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah. The others are in Jaipur, Ujjain, Mathura and Varanasi.

Hawa Mahal or wind palace of Jaipur is an identical monument of the city. Raja Sawai Partap singh built this palace in 1799. It has numerous big and small windows that allow the wind enter the Palace. The five story building is appear to be the tail of Peacock. Painted with pink and white colors in a very uniformed yet attractive way. The entrance is behind the Palace. Constructed to provide a place to the Royal ladies to see the daily life of the people without being seen by them. The Palace has many chambers to relax during the summer time.

It has a big fountain to cool the palace and all the stories decorated with glass mosaics. Hawa Mahal overlooks the main street of Jaipur. The Market on the street with traditional artifacts, cloths and Jaipuri sleepers of camel skin add the excitement of the exploration. The roads always filled, and the traffic is mind boggling. One should take great care of them while crossing the streets. Following the locals is always a best idea for the foreigner in India to be safe.
